Growing without moving
Home Additions in Bethlehem
A new bedroom, den or primary suite attached to your house, with most of the building done outside and the indoor mess limited to the tie-in.
Ask whether your lot has room to grow — (000) 000-0000Built Beside You, Joined at the End
An addition is new construction joined to a house you're living in. Nearly all of it is built from the outside, so your existing walls stay closed and life indoors carries on for most of the job.
Things only get dusty once the crew cuts through the old outside wall to connect the rooms. That cut is scheduled near the end, the rooms beside the opening are sealed off, and the area is swept daily until the new rooms are finished.
What an Addition Includes
-
Foundation and shell
Footings poured, a slab or crawlspace formed, walls framed and windows set, all while the house stays sealed and the old exterior wall stays where it is.
-
Joining the two
Once the shell is weather-tight, the old wall is opened, floor heights are matched and ducts are run so the new rooms heat and cool with the rest.
-
Inside the new rooms
Insulation, drywall, trim and paint, plus the outlets, lights and any bathroom piping the space needs before you move furniture in.
What to Settle Before Pricing
-
What the lot allows
Setbacks from property lines, easements and height or size limits decide where an addition can go and how big it can be. We check those before pricing.
-
Matching the house
Exterior trim, window style and the interior doors and casings are matched, so the new rooms look like they were always part of the house.
-
Heating and cooling
Your existing system may or may not handle the new square footage. That question gets answered early, because the answer affects the estimate.
Thinking It Over
Roughly how long is an addition from start to finish?
Usually months, not weeks. Foundation, framing, inspections, the tie-in and interior finishes happen in order, and weather can shift the outdoor stages.
Is adding on better than moving?
If you like your street and your lot has room, an addition is worth pricing. Compare its itemized cost with selling, buying, moving and closing costs before deciding.
Short on Space but Not Ready to Leave?
Describe who needs the space and which side of the house could take it. We'll go over what building there would likely mean.
