Bathroom Remodeling in Bethlehem
New showers, tile, vanities and exhaust fans, built with the door sealed and the hall floor covered, so tile dust stays where the work is.
What would you change in there? Tell us on (000) 000-0000Gritty Work, a Few Steps From the Bedroom
Demolition is the loud, gritty part of any bath remodel, and it usually happens right next to a bedroom. So the doorway gets sealed with plastic, the floor out to the hall gets covered, and the room is cleaned out each day before we go.
After tear-out comes the part you never see again: waterproofing behind the shower, drain and supply changes, venting to the outside. You also get a one-year warranty on the finished room.
What Goes Into the Bath
-
Shower or tub
A walk-in shower, a tub-to-shower conversion or a new tub with a tiled surround, built over a waterproof layer that keeps the framing dry.
-
Tile on a flat base
Tile for the floor and walls, plus any niche or bench, laid over a level, solid substrate so grout lines run straight and nothing cracks loose.
-
Cabinet, fixtures, lights
The vanity and its top, the faucet, toilet, mirror and lights, with supply, drain and wiring moved as needed to put each piece where you want it.
-
A fan that actually vents
An exhaust fan sized to the room and ducted outside, so shower steam gets pushed outdoors rather than settling into new paint and caulk.
How the Bath Gets Rebuilt
-
Pick before tear-out
Tile, the vanity, fixtures and shower glass get chosen and ordered first, so the room isn't stripped bare while it waits on a delivery.
-
Strip and rough in
The old finishes come out, the subfloor and framing are checked, and drains, supply lines, wiring and the fan duct move to suit the new layout.
-
Waterproof, tile, finish
A waterproof layer goes behind the shower before tile, then the vanity, toilet, fixtures and trim go in and the room gets a thorough cleaning.
Before You Give Up the Bathroom
How many weeks is the bathroom unusable?
Usually a few weeks of work once materials are in hand. Relocated plumbing, made-to-measure glass and tile that has to be special ordered can add time, which is why those choices get pinned down early.
Is it worth moving the toilet or shower?
Only if the current layout really doesn't work. Moving fixtures means opening the floor and rerouting drains, which adds cost. Keeping them in place leaves more of the budget for tile and fixtures.
